St Mary's Primary School, Kircubbin

Primary 1/2

Welcome to P1/2

We welcome our new Primary 1 class to St Mary’s Kircubbin.  We are so excited to have you. We are delighted to have our P2s with us and their smiles week have been so lovely.

Our topics for the month of September & October are ‘Birthdays’, ‘The Senses’, ‘Autumn’ and ‘Halloween’. We will make links to these topics in all curricular areas where possible.

Suggested activities for home:

'The Senses'/’Birthdays’

  • Talk to your child about birthdays. Encourage them to recall their last birthday and talk about their names and why they are ‘special’.
  • Go on a senses walk at home and encourage your child to use their senses to experience the environment.
  • Develop vocabulary linked with each of the five senses eg Touch : prickly, rough, smooth, velvety, spongy …
  • Remind your child of the importance of using their senses to keep them safe – eg on the road

Trips/Visitors:

  • We will visit the local optician to find out about the work she does (details to follow).
  • We will go on an Autumn Walk to Mount Stewart (details to follow).
  • A local farmer will visit the school to talk to the children about his work in Autumn (details to follow).

PE days

Our PE days will be Monday and Thursday. A school tracksuit and trainers may be worn to school on these PE days.

Labelling

Please ensure that all of your child’s belongings are clearly marked with their full name i.e. all items of uniform/clothing, lunch boxes, water bottles, PE bags, trainers… (Also, please check items regularly to ensure that the name is still visible.)

I look forward to meeting Primary 1 parents at our baseline meeting at the end of September and Primary 2 parents at the whole school Parent Teacher Meetings at the end of October.

We would ask all parents to send in a box of tissues and packet wipes as this donation is greatly appreciated.

May I take this opportunity to thank you for your support and encouragement. If any time you need to chat or have any queries, please get in touch.
