Libraries NI have delivered a Big Summer Read (BSR) on an annual basis for children during the summer months for many years.
The BSR has been promoted as a fun activity, but it is also a way for children to maintain their reading levels during school holidays, access reading opportunities and enjoy reading for pleasure.
The 2023 BSR will be a Libraries NI event with the title “Ready Steady Read!”. The challenge is themed around sports and being active. It will run from 1 to 31 July 2023 inclusive.
Branch libraries will run a number of events and activities on a sporting theme during July which will be open to all primary school children.
The focus is aimed at P3s, however everyone can take part.
P3 and P4 will receive a BSR Booklet. Children will set themselves a challenge of how many books they will read during July, when they return their books to the library staff will stamp the number of books read in the booklet.
