Today P6 worked on an Izak 9 problem called “3x3 grid”. It incorporated so many maths topics we have been exploring recently- rapid recall of multiples of 3, estimating, written multiplication in columns but most importantly our October mental maths focus of REORDERING.
One of our follow-up questions after the practical task was: “Find the product of 3,6 and 9.” This presented us with lots of possibilities and we discovered our mental maths strategies of partitioning and rounding and adjusting also came in very useful. In addition to this we developed our mathematical language. We love Izak 9! Active Learning at its best!!!
